Greece’s New Cruise Landing Fee: Everything You Need to Know

Greece's New Cruise Landing Fee: Everything You Need to Know

If you’re heading to Greece on a cruise, there’s one important change worth knowing about: since 1 July 2025, the Greek government has charged a new “landing fee” to every passenger arriving on a cruise ship. The Greek landing fee is mainly meant to manage mass tourism and protect local infrastructure – but of course it also adds to the cost of your trip.

How much is the Greek landing fee?

The amount depends on which port you go ashore in and what time of year you arrive:

The highest fee applies to the popular and often overcrowded islands of Santorini and Mykonos.

Low season
(Nov–Mar)
Santorini, Mykonos€20 per person€12 per person€4 per person
Other Greek ports€5 per person€3 per person€1 per person

How is the fee collected?

You only pay the Greek landing fee if you actually leave the ship in that Greek port. It isn’t included in your cruise fare.

The fee may be collected by the cruise line or by the local authorities – this can vary from ship to ship.
It’s charged separately for every port call – if your ship stops at several Greek ports, it may apply at each one.

The fee is not set by CLICKnCRUISE; it’s collected under a decision of the Greek government.

Why is Greece introducing the fee?

Greece’s most popular islands – especially Santorini and Mykonos – have struggled with serious overcrowding in recent years. On a summer’s day, thousands of passengers can come ashore in a single port at the same time.

The money raised will go towards things like:

  • expanding port infrastructure,
  • supporting sustainable transport,
  • easing the strain tourism puts on local communities.

According to the Greek government, this step is essential if the country is to remain a sustainable destination in the long run.

When does it apply from?

The Greek landing fee has applied to every cruise calling at a Greek port since 1 July 2025.

Cruises that set sail before 1 July but reach Greek shores after that date may also be affected.

What to look out for when booking with CLICKnCRUISE

In each cruise’s detailed itinerary, we flag every Greek port call where the Greek landing fee may apply. For example, you’ll see something like:

Greek port fee may apply: €5 per person (if you go ashore)

Each cruise line handles collection differently, and it may be charged separately on board or in port.

TIP: Stay on board if you’d rather not pay

As the Greek landing fee only applies to passengers who go ashore, you won’t pay anything if you stay on the ship in a given port. Of course, we’d much rather you went out and explored Greece’s wonderful towns and islands – but it’s good to know you have the option.
